Who Gets a Discount and Who Enters Free

Galata Tower admission is set by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the ministry defines every discount and free-entry category. The 2026 standard ticket is €30 for foreign visitors and ₺650 for Turkish citizens, updated at the start of each calendar year. Several groups pay less than the full price, and a few enter at no charge at all.

Because the reduced amounts are recalculated yearly, this page does not quote fixed discounted numbers. Instead, it tells you which category you fall into, how to prove it, and what to expect. Always confirm the exact figure at the official ticket office or on muze.gov.tr before your visit.

Students: Turkish IDs and the ISIC Question

Turkish students with a valid national student ID consistently receive a discounted entrance price. This is the most reliable student reduction at the tower.

For international students, the situation is less certain. Some visitors report receiving a reduced rate when presenting an ISIC (International Student Identity Card), but this is at the discretion of the ticket office and is not guaranteed. A regular university ID from your home country may or may not be accepted. If you want the best chance of a discount, bring a valid ISIC card and be prepared to pay the standard price if it is declined.

Seniors, Children and Teachers

• Children under 6 enter free. Older children generally pay the standard adult price unless a specific youth category applies in a given year — check at the desk.
• Turkish citizens aged 65 and over receive a discount with a valid ID card. This applies to Turkish nationals; foreign seniors are usually charged the standard rate.
• Teachers may be eligible for a professional discount in some periods. Carry your teaching or professional ID and ask at the ticket office.

Disabled Visitors and Companions

Disabled visitors are typically admitted free of charge or at a reduced rate, and in most cases one accompanying companion is also admitted free to assist them. How to Prove Your Eligibility

Every discount depends on documentation. To avoid paying full price by mistake:

• Students — carry your Turkish student ID, or an ISIC card if you are an international student.
• Seniors (65+) — carry your Turkish national ID card.
• Disabled visitors — carry your official disability card or ID; your companion should arrive together with you.
• Children — a passport or ID showing age may be requested for the under-6 free category.

Present your document at the ticket office before paying. Discounts are applied at purchase, not refunded afterwards.

The "Exit Fee" (Çıkış Ücreti) Confusion

One of the most persistent myths online is that Galata Tower charges a separate exit fee — in Turkish, galata kulesi çıkış ücreti. This is not true. There is no additional charge to leave the tower.

You pay one single entrance ticket when you go in. That ticket covers your full visit: all nine floors, the museum exhibitions, the elevator, and the 360° observation balcony. When you are finished, you simply walk out — there is no turnstile that charges you again on the way down.

The phrase circulates because some visitors misremember the single entrance price as a two-part charge, or confuse it with unrelated attractions elsewhere. If anyone tells you there is a compulsory exit payment at Galata Tower, treat it as a misunderstanding. You pay once, to enter.

Museum Pass Istanbul Is Accepted (Daytime)

Galata Tower is now a Ministry of Culture museum, so the Museum Pass Istanbul and Müzekart are valid for daytime entry — the same pass that covers Topkapı Palace, Hagia Sophia's museum sections and the Archaeological Museums. The only exception is the evening Night Museology (Gece Müzeciliği) session (18:30–23:00), which the pass does not cover; pass holders who visit in the evening pay a separate ₺200.
